Appeal: Theft from vehicles in Spalding

Officers investigating a number of thefts from motor vehicles in the Spalding area since July have arrested a man and carried out searches at an address as part of the ongoing investigation.

During the searches at a property in The Meadows area, officers recovered a number of items which may potentially be stolen property. Enquiries are continuing to establish where these items have come from and whether they can be linked to reported incidents.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference. He has been released on police bail while further enquiries continue.

Why has the suspect been released on bail?

An arrest is an important investigative step. Early arrests help Police manage suspects, secure and preserve evidence, facilitate searches and reduce the opportunity for further offending while the investigation progresses. Officers need to complete further lines of enquiry before charges will be considered by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Police bail allows officers the necessary time to establish the full circumstances, examine the evidence recovered and compile all relevant evidence to put a robust case to the CPS.

Sergeant Marc Fowler from South Holland Neighbourhood Policing Team said: We know that thefts from vehicles can have a significant impact on victims, both financially and personally. Officers have been working hard to identify those responsible.  This arrest and subsequent searches represent important steps in the investigation.

We are now asking members of the public to contact us if they have any information which may assist the investigation, or if they believe they may have been a victim but have not yet reported the matter.

We would particularly encourage anyone who has had property stolen from their vehicle to contact us and report it so officers can investigate the circumstances. Any information from the public could be crucial in helping officers establish the full picture and identify any further offences.
